Are the words "m" and "tumor" synonymous?

I found out yesterday that my ex, my son's father, has a m behind his left eye. I didn't ask his mom too much--I didn't want to pry, but is a m a tumor? Or maybe I should be asking, is a m/tumor necessarily cancerous or fatal?
